Justin DeMarco, CSI, CDT
Business Development, Neopor®

BIO:  Justin DeMarco CSI, CDT is kindly requesting your support as Director within the Grand Rapids Chapter of CSI.  Justin has 13 years of industry experience following his B.B.A. in International Business and German from GVSU and M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Dallas.  Justin’s current role as North American Business Development Manager at BASF has him working closely with every facet of the industry to help guide smart decisions toward building more efficiently and sustainably for a better tomorrow.  His responsibilities also have him leading Marketing and Communications efforts in his division including but not limited to Market analysis, Press Releases, Social Media (organic and campaigns), Web Site Management, Continuing Education creation and promotion, Targeted product bulletins, as well as bringing in new technology to best communicate product value propositions (specifically AR and VR).  He is a core team member of the cross functional and cross divisional group tasked in organizing the approach BASF takes related to BIM.  Additionally, Justin sits on BASF’s Global Marketing Team representing North America for rigid insulation providing him both a global perspective of the construction industry as well as a pipeline of new ideas.  Justin is a member of several other construction focused associations including PCI, SIPA and EPS-IA.  Justin lives in Grand Rapids Township with his wife Marisa and daughters Olivia (4) and Ava (8mo).  Thank you for your consideration.

STATEMENT:  I don’t bring 40 years of specification experience to the board… In fact, many reading this have been writing specs longer than I’ve been alive.  What I absolutely bring are fresh new ideas coupled with the desire and ability to implement them.  As a member of the board, I would be in the best possible position to quickly gain agreement then proceed as well as offering a new perspective to ongoing organizational topics.  I feel strongly about CSI growing (both locally and nationally) that I had also applied as a Director-At-Large position with the National organization prior to being nominated in our chapter.  At my request, BASF is sponsoring a booth at CONSTRUCT in October and I will personally be there to support it.  I’m especially interested in making CSI-GR the organization of choice for all those in West Michigan with any connection to the construction industry.  Many of the ideas I have for our chapter are aimed toward improved communication as well as the recruitment of younger members.  Recruiting younger members starts with younger members stepping up to leadership roles, so that’s exactly what I’m doing.  The initial ideas I would like to implement once on the board are:

–          Social Media

o   Break down the monthly newsletter into bite sized pieces and post for consumption of users that don’t read the entire newsletter.

o   Post regular updates and reminders about meetings and speakers.

o   Find me on: LinkedIn HERE / Twitter HERE

–          Marketing

o   Guide the board through a marketing review for organization self-reflection.  Ultimately answering three questions: What does CSI-GR offer to prospective members?  What could/should it deliver?  What things do we need to do to get there?

–          Recruitment

o   Bring a fun new CSI-GR event to fruition called “Craft Brews & CEUs” aimed to attract a younger demographic to our organization less interested in the formal dinner meeting.  Only current CSI-GR members would be allowed as presenters as to further encourage any interested in presenting to join our organization to collaborate with us.

o   Review several other meeting/event concepts to grow the chapter as well as everyone’s local network within the AEC industry.
