Seriously, I am happy to be back to represent Grand Rapids CSI Chapter for another term as chapter President for 2017/2018!
First let me begin by thanking Gregg Jones for his service in this position last year. Gregg did a phenomenal job representing our chapter locally, regionally and nationally. Gregg has an amazing talent for multi-tasking all of his responsibilities. He excels as an architect and spec writer, as a spelunker leading youth through underground caves, and as our chapter president he mastered the key to the basket of awards that have been bestowed upon us, all this, while enjoying his favorite Microbrew. Thank you Gregg, we appreciate all you have done this past year.
We had the opportunity to meet as a board last month to brainstorm our goals for the chapter going forward. Some of the ideas were items that we were not able to cross off our list from previous years. We are dedicated to the completion of a functioning website for the chapter, which will allow us to better connect with membership, generate revenues, and communicate with the Construction community on our upcoming events. Other common goals are to increase our membership through quality programs and presentations, membership retention, and to celebrate our 50th Year Anniversary in style.
The board is heading to the national CSI Construct in Rhode Island early in the month, which will push our monthly program meeting to September 20th. We are pleased to announce this month’s program will be a presentation by Jason Teetaert, P. Eng. Of SMT, Structure Monitoring Technology a Forensic Research Company that does moisture testing and data collection on all types of construction for building owners, designers, and General Contractors, including ongoing litigation cases. The presentation will look at Forensics and the methods for monitoring data and leak detection and analysis, for various roofs, walls, green roofs, plaza decks etc. I have seen the presentation and it is an excellent portrayal of the state of the art in this field.
In closing, I challenge all of our current membership, board, and chair people to renew your commitment to participate in CSI Grand Rapids, we have a great group of industry professionals to network and interact with. Thank you for your ongoing support of the chapter, I look forward to seeing you soon at an upcoming CSI Event.
Best wishes for 2017,
Charlie Appleby CSI, CCPR
