Spring is in the Air

Spring is just around the corner and each year we have high school graduates heading off to their College of choice.  Grand Rapids CSI is committed to providing annual scholarships to young people that want to pursue our industry.  Whether it be Architecture, Engineering, Construction management, or other related fields we are here to offer financial aid.  The CSI 34th Annual Jim Hojnacki Scholarship Golf Outing will be held at Thornapple Point Golf Course on June 6th, so start making plans, invite an architect to join a foursome, sponsor a hole with your company logo and prepare to have a great time and all for a great cause.

The March CSI Program Meeting: Will be held at Thousand Oak 3/8 , featuring “Building Envelope” Presented by Amanda Gray of Dow Corning. Discussion of air barriers and wall system design elements. There is a great deal of interest in this topic with code changes and NFP 285, this should prove to be a quality program.

The April chapter program meeting will be a tour of the new Urban Market, the first of its kind in downtown west side Grand Rapids.  A mix of retail, residential and a new store size for Meijer Retail/Grocery chain.  Construction project tours are our most popular programs, so I hope to see everyone at the tour, bring a safety vest and your hardhats and your curiosity.

I challenge every member to invite a friend or coworker to our monthly meetings.  Every member needs to get involved if you are not already.  As a member you truly are rewarded 10 times over for what you put into this organization. We are always looking for volunteers to join our committees including golf committee, membership committee, and the Design and Construction Expo Committee.

I look forward to seeing everyone in March. Travel safe, stay warm and thank you for your support of our Grand Rapids CSI Chapter.

Respectfully Submitted,

Charlie Appleby CSI, CCPR
