The purpose for this event is to generate money for our Chapter’s scholarship fund. The Chapter tried something new in 2020 and we have deemed it a great success. Therefore, we will be providing another Scholarship this year to a young man or woman participating in the ACE Mentorship Program.

What is the ACE Mentorship Program?

Founded in 1994, the ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE) is a free, award-winning, afterschool program designed to attract high school students into pursuing careers in the Architecture, Construction and Engineering industry, including skilled trades.

As the organization’s newest recognized affiliate — and the only program of its kind in West Michigan — the ACE Mentor Program of West Michigan furthers this mission by presenting hands-on experience and architectural opportunity to high school students in greater Grand Rapids. With over 10,000 student participants nationally, 69% of which identify as minority representation, our goal is to reach under-served student populations in key districts and illuminate equitable and inclusive paths to success in the architectural industry.

The program offers a 16-week curriculum of immersive learning, in which mentors provide hands-on experience reflecting many aspects of designing and constructing a building. Mentors meaningfully engage students with realistic design projects that introduce them to the basic skills and knowledge of the design/construction industry. Through personal example, explanation, and tours of
offices and construction sites, they also inform students about career paths and work-life in the design/construction professions. Through ACE, students acquire a set of skills and experiences which are among those cited as essential for the 21st century workplace:
• Critical thinking and problem-solving
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Creativity and innovation
• Information technology application
• Communication in a cross-cultural environment

The Grand Rapids CSI Chapter has decided to be a Gold Sponsor for this program. Getting students involved in the
Construction Industry and CSI is very important, especially now!
