Chapter Bylaws; Article 5, Sections 1, 2, and 5:

“The President shall serve as chair of the board; preside at all Chapter meetings; select the chairs of temporary committees, be an ex-officio member of all committees, and shall sign all agreements and formal instruments.  The President shall serve for a term of one year or until a successor is elected.”

“The President-Elect shall serve as chair upon the absence of the President and perform other duties as assigned by the board.  The President-Elect shall serve for a term of one year or until a successor is elected.”

“The advisory director shall be the Immediate Past-President of the Chapter.  If the immediate Past-President is unable to serve, the Advisory Director shall be a Past-President of the Chapter appointed by a two-thirds vote of the board.  The Advisory Director shall serve as chair upon the absence of the President and President-Elect.  The Advisory Director shall serve as chair of the Nominating Committee, and have other assignments as prescribed by the board.”

Like a good spec section, this position is actually is a three parter – President-Elect, Chapter President, and Immediate Past President – a three year commitment.

PART 1 – PRESIDENT-ELECT (PE)

Term:

  • The first year of a total three-year term.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Governing member of the Chapter, upholding the bylaws and mission of the Chapter.
  • Assisting and filling in for the Chapter President as you prepare for assuming that role the following year. 
  • Chair or participate as Liaison for one of the Chapter committees. Provide a monthly report of committee activities to the board.

 PART 2 – PRESIDENT

Term:

  • The second year of a total three-year term.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Governing member of the Chapter, upholding the bylaws and mission of the Chapter.
  • Overall leadership of the Chapter Board and Committees.
  • Presiding over monthly Chapter Board meetings.
  • Working with the Chapter Secretary to prepare the monthly Chapter Board meeting agenda.
  • Working with the Chapter Treasurer to prepare a draft of the Chapter Budget.
  • Prepare a monthly “President’s Message” for the Chapter newsletter.
  • Participating in four (4) Regional Board Meetings (Go-to-Meetings) as the Chapter Director.

PART 3 – IMMEDIATE PAST-PRESIDENT (IPP)

Term:

  • The third and final year of a total three-year term.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Governing member of the Chapter, upholding the bylaws and mission of the Chapter
  • Acting as an advisor to the Chapter President and Board.
  • Chairing the Nominating Committee and preparing a slate of new officers for April elections.

GENERAL

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Attendance to monthly Chapter Board Meetings (9-10 annually).
  • As part of your presidential terms, you are a member of the Chapter Executive Committee (Chapter President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer). 
  • You are encouraged to attend the annual Great Lakes Regional Conferences for leadership training.
  •  You are encouraged to represent the Chapter at CONSTRUCT (CSI Annual Convention) during your presidential term.

Nomination Considerations: 

  • Candidates for the position of President (et.al.) are generally selected from members who have served or are currently on the Chapter Board so to have a basic understanding of the responsibilities and workings of the Board, Chapter and CSI.
